The 2026-27 Premier League season has three international windows: 21 September to 6 October, 9 to 17 November and 22 to 30 March.
The first is the change. What used to be a nine-day break in September and another in October has become a single sixteen-day block. Countries play four matches in it instead of two.
The Premier League finishes Matchweek 5 on 20 September and does not return until Matchweek 6 on 10 October. That is a nineteen-day gap between rounds of English league football.
The stated reason is player welfare and fewer intercontinental trips, which matters most to squads with African and South American internationals who would otherwise cross the Atlantic twice inside five weeks.
For anyone following from this side of the world, the practical effect is that the busiest fortnight of the European season disappears at exactly the point the Asian Games and the Asian Champions League league stage are running. Asian club and international football has that stretch of the calendar largely to itself.
The November window is nine days and the March window is nine days, so the merged block is a one-off rather than a new pattern across the season.
