Premier League Returns on Saturday: Liverpool vs Man City Headlines Matchweek 6, With Malaysian Kick-Off Times

The Premier League is back on 10 October after a 19-day break. Leaders Man City visit unbeaten Liverpool on Sunday at 11.30pm Malaysian time.

The long wait is almost over. The Premier League returns this Saturday, 10 October, after a 19-day international break, and the first weekend back includes a trip to Anfield for the league leaders.

Why the break was so long

The Premier League says FIFA's revised calendar gave national teams a three-week window this autumn, so they could play up to four matches. In effect, the usual September and October breaks were merged into one longer pause.

The table at the break

According to Sports Illustrated's table after five matches:

  1. Manchester City: 15 points (five wins from five)
  2. Arsenal: 12
  3. Brighton: 10
  4. Brentford, Leeds United, Liverpool and Everton: 9 each

At the bottom, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham have two points each, with Coventry City and Bournemouth on three.

Champions Arsenal had their perfect start ended by a 3-0 defeat at Brighton just before the break. The Premier League also notes that Leeds are one of only five unbeaten teams, which they have not managed at this stage of a top-flight season since 2001/02.

The big one: Liverpool vs Manchester City

The standout fixture is on Sunday at Anfield, kicking off at 11.30pm Malaysian time (4.30pm UK time).

City arrive with a perfect record after a 5-3 win over Sunderland before the break. Liverpool are unbeaten in all competitions this season and won 1-0 at Bournemouth in their last match. Andoni Iraola is in charge at Anfield after moving from Bournemouth in the summer, and Enzo Maresca leads City. City have the better recent record in this fixture, including a 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final win last April.

Maresca holds his pre-match press conference on Friday, 9 October.

Other fixtures to watch

Arsenal vs Leeds United opens the weekend on Saturday. It puts the champions, looking to bounce back from Brighton, against a Leeds side that has not lost yet.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur is Saturday's late kick-off. Both clubs have struggled: United have five points and Spurs are bottom with two under their new management.

On Monday night, promoted Coventry City host Newcastle United.
