Novak Djokovic Fell Out of the Men's Top Ten for the First Time in More Than Eight Years
Alexander Zverev's United States Open title took him to second and cut Jannik Sinner's lead, while no member of the old big three sits in the top ten.
Novak Djokovic dropped to twelfth in the men's rankings published on 14 September 2026, the first time in more than eight years that the 24-time Grand Slam champion has been outside the top ten. He had lost in the first round of the United States Open.
Alexander Zverev rose to second after winning the title in New York, his second Grand Slam, narrowing the gap to the world number one Jannik Sinner. Carlos Alcaraz dropped to third after a quarter-final exit.
Ben Shelton, 23, climbed five places to a career-high fourth after reaching his first Grand Slam final. Felix Auger-Aliassime dropped one place to fifth, Daniil Medvedev rose two to sixth and Flavio Cobolli held seventh. Frances Tiafoe returned to the top ten at eighth, a career-best mark, after reaching the semi-finals in New York. Alex de Minaur was ninth and Taylor Fritz tenth.
It is the first time since 2002 that none of Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal appears in the men's top ten.
Sinner has considerably more ranking points to defend than Zverev over the remainder of 2026, so the gap at the top is expected to narrow further before the season ends.
