T1 Went Five Games With BNK FearX This Weekend and the Road to a Fourth Straight Worlds Title Runs Through Texas
LCK and LPL playoffs both opened over the weekend of 29 and 30 August. Worlds 2026 is in Los Angeles, Allen and Brooklyn from 15 October.
Both of League of Legends' largest regions opened their final playoffs of the season over the weekend, and the results set up the last month of Worlds qualification.
In the LCK, T1 beat BNK FearX 3-2 on the opening weekend and KT Rolster swept Dplus KIA 3-0. The upper bracket now pairs Gen.G with KT Rolster and Hanwha Life Esports with T1. The format is best-of-five double elimination under Fearless Draft, running through 13 September. Korea has three Worlds seeds, and Hanwha Life Esports already hold one by virtue of winning MSI 2026 — which means the bracket is really deciding the other two.
In China, LPL Split 3 play-ins started on 28 August, with Top Esports meeting LGD on the 29th and JD Gaming facing Team WE on the 30th. Bilibili Gaming and Anyone's Legend received byes into the upper semi-finals on 3 and 4 September. The playoff prize pool is roughly four million Chinese yuan, around 595,000 US dollars, and the winner takes China's first Worlds seed.
Confirmed Worlds qualifiers as of 31 August are thin: Hanwha Life Esports from the LCK, Bilibili Gaming from the LPL, and Team Secret Whales and MVK Esports from the LCP. Reporting on the LCP seeding order is inconsistent — some outlets list CTBC Flying Oyster among the qualified — and it should not be treated as settled. No European, North American or Brazilian team has qualified yet. The LEC Summer Finals are not until 18 to 20 September at Palais Nikaia in Nice.
The tournament they are all playing for has been rebuilt. Worlds 2026 runs from 15 October to 14 November across three United States venues: the play-in stage at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, the Swiss stage, quarter-finals and semi-finals at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, and the final at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The field expands to 19 teams with a double-elimination play-in feeding a 16-team Swiss stage, from which the top eight advance to single-elimination knockouts. The LCK, LPL, LEC, LCS and LCP each send three teams directly to the Swiss stage; CBLOL sends two; MSI's winner and runner-up take the remaining slots. It is the first Worlds since 2024 to feature both LCS and CBLOL teams, following the split of the unified LTA region.
T1 arrive as three-time defending champions.
