ESIC bans ex-MOUZ player kzy for life as five NOMERCY players punished for CS2 match manipulation
The Esports Integrity Commission has banned five NOMERCY players over four group-stage losses at Roman Imperium Cup VII, with kzy handed a lifetime ban.
The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has banned five Counter-Strike 2 players from the NOMERCY team for match manipulation, with former MOUZ player Oliver "kzy" Heck banned for life. The sanctions, announced on Thursday 15 October, relate to four group-stage matches at Roman Imperium Cup VII in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, in March 2026.
The bans
ESIC handed down three different sanctions:
- Oliver "kzy" Heck (Germany): lifetime ban
- János "James8k" Fodor (Hungary) and Petar "perakokanje" Bešir (Serbia): five years, until 23 April 2031
- Tamás "playN" Palkovics (Hungary) and Sreten "srtn1" Smiljanić (Serbia): three years, until 23 April 2029
The bans are counted from April 2026, when the players were provisionally suspended as the investigation began.
What happened in Portugal
The case covered four best-of-one group matches that NOMERCY played on 28 March 2026, all of them lost. Three of the four ended 13-1 or worse, and the closest finished 13-3.
ESIC said it built its case from a broad range of material rather than any single piece of evidence. That included integrity alerts linked to the four matches, a full review of the gameplay with player-by-player analysis, communications and financial records, and the players' own responses. In the games themselves, investigators pointed to repeated failures in trading, utility use, positioning and decision-making.
Why kzy got the heaviest sanction
ESIC said kzy played a central role. He was the team's leader and in-game caller, was involved in map veto decisions, was repeatedly implicated in the gameplay review and did not co-operate with the investigation at all.
James8k and perakokanje received five years because of the findings against them and their failure to co-operate. playN's shorter ban reflected mitigating factors, including detailed answers, handing over financial and communications records, continued engagement, his youth and relative inexperience. srtn1's three-year ban took into account his initial answers, which ESIC described as incomplete and inconsistent.
Who are the players?
kzy is the best known of the five, with a career stretching back to Counter-Strike 1.6 and spells with MOUZ and several other German sides. playN has played for a number of leading Hungarian teams over the past two years. James8k, perakokanje and srtn1 have little or no professional record outside the Portuguese event, according to HLTV. None of the five is currently with a team.
Integrity under the spotlight
The rulings come as tier-two and tier-three Counter-Strike faces closer scrutiny over integrity. Earlier this week, PGL disqualified a team from an open qualifier for its 2027 Bucharest event, citing competitive integrity concerns.
