Growers Will Chase a One Thousand and Seventeen Kilogramme Record at the Dutch Pumpkin Championship in Breda
Classes for the heaviest courgette, the heaviest tomato, the longest cucumber and the longest sunflower run alongside the main pumpkin weigh-in.
Growers will bring their heaviest fruit to Pier15 in Breda on Saturday 19 September 2026 for the NK Pompoen Kweken, the Dutch national giant pumpkin championship.
The record to beat is 1,017.5kg, the heaviest pumpkin ever weighed in the Netherlands, which was set at last year's championship. The winner takes 1,500 euro and the national title, with the weigh-in and prize ceremony scheduled for 3pm and free admission for spectators.
Separate classes cover the heaviest courgette, the heaviest tomato, the longest cucumber and the longest sunflower, so growers who fall short on pumpkins can still leave with a title.
The championship is organised by CANNA Nederland and Stadstuinieren alongside the festival promoter Dokter Worst, and sits inside the Heet, Zuur en Hop festival, which offers 25 market stands, cookery workshops, speciality beers and a chilli eating contest at 1pm and 4pm.
The Dutch weigh-off is one of nine listed by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth for 19 September alone, with others in Slovenia, Serbia, Austria and the United States, and a further five on 20 September in Italy, Spain and Germany.
