Eighteen Free Fire Teams From Four Countries Are Two Weeks From Surabaya

The second phase of the Free Fire World Series Southeast Asia Fall season ends today. The grand finals are on 19 and 20 September.

The Free Fire World Series Southeast Asia Fall season ends its second phase today, three weeks into a run that started on 14 August and finishes in Surabaya on 19 and 20 September.

Eighteen teams from four countries. Five Indonesian, five Thai, five Vietnamese and three Malaysian: Esports Putrajaya, Maqna Esports Club and VAMOS, the last of whom finished fourth in the spring season.

The format is unkind in a specific way. The first phase, from 14 to 23 August, cut the field to twelve on standings points. The second phase, from 28 August to today, sends only the top two teams from each match day straight to the grand finals, while the teams that finished thirteenth to sixteenth rotate back in. Everybody still standing then plays a third phase for the last six places.

Team Falcons and RRQ Kazu both finished the first phase on 396 points, with RRQ Kazu placed third on a countback of three Booyahs and 267 eliminations. Bigetron by Vitality were sixth on 336 and ONIC eleventh on 275. EVOS Divine and MBR Omega missed the top twelve and came back through the rotation.

The grand finals use the Champion Rush format with a 110-point threshold, so the tournament ends when somebody reaches it rather than when the schedule runs out.

Eight Southeast Asian teams go on to the global finals, which start in Bangkok on 6 November and run across four weekends, expanded to 24 teams from 18.
