Xin Ying Yee and Yasshmita Jadishkumar set up all-Malaysian qualifying final at Egyptian Squash Open
One Malaysian is guaranteed to reach the main draw at the CIB Egyptian Squash Open in Giza, where Sivasangari Subramaniam is fifth seed and Ng Eain Yow 16th.
Malaysia is guaranteed at least one qualifier in the women's main draw of the CIB Egyptian Squash Open, after Xin Ying Yee and Yasshmita Jadishkumar both won two qualifying matches to set up an all-Malaysian qualifying final in Giza.
The PSA World Tour Platinum event runs from 6 to 16 October, with the later rounds played on a glass court near the Great Pyramid of Giza. Asian Games champions Sivasangari Subramaniam and Ng Eain Yow head Malaysia's squad in the main draws, which start on 10 October.
Two Malaysians, one main-draw place
Xin Ying Yee looked sharp in qualifying. She beat Egypt's Salma El Alfy 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 in 18 minutes, then saw off England's Kiera Marshall 11-9, 11-8, 11-8.
Yasshmita Jadishkumar beat France's Enora Villard 12-10, 11-8, 11-6 before a tougher four-game win over Wales' Lowri Roberts, 11-1, 10-12, 11-9, 11-5. Because the draw put them together in the final qualifying round, one of them will go through to the main draw.
Ainaa Amani was the only Malaysian woman to lose in the first qualifying round, beaten 12-10 in the fifth game by Ireland's Breanne Flynn after 63 minutes.
Mixed day for the Malaysian men
In the men's qualifying, Sanjay Jeeva, Ameeshenraj Chandaran and Joachim Chuah all won their opening matches in straight games. Jeeva beat Germany's Yannik Omlor, Chandaran beat Egypt's Hassan Menshawy, and Chuah beat Egypt's Abdullah Hafez. Jeeva and Chandaran meet each other in the second qualifying round.
Mohammad Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee went out in the first round of qualifying, losing to Egypt's Ibrahim Elkabbani and Mohamed Gohar respectively.
Sivasangari and Eain Yow return after Asian Games gold
Sivasangari is the women's fifth seed and has a first-round bye, as does Ng Eain Yow, the 16th seed in the men's draw. Both arrive in Egypt shortly after winning singles gold at the Asian Games, which also earned Malaysia quota places for the LA28 Olympics, where squash makes its debut.
Rachel Arnold faces a qualifier in the women's first round, and Aira Azman plays Hong Kong's Tomato Ho.
A strong field at the Pyramids
The home nation dominates the seedings. Hania El Hammamy is the women's top seed, ahead of Amina Orfi and Nour El Sherbini, with Nouran Gohar seeded seventh. Mostafa Asal leads the men's draw, with New Zealand's Paul Coll and Peru's Diego Elias seeded second and third.
According to the PSA schedule, the first round is on 10 October, the quarter-finals on 13 and 14 October, and the finals on 16 October. Giza is five hours behind Malaysia, so evening matches will finish after midnight in Kuala Lumpur. Matches are streamed on SQUASHTV.
