Counter-Strike's First Southeast Asian Major Goes to the Singapore Indoor Stadium in November

The next Counter-Strike 2 Major will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 25 November to 13 December, with a prize pool of 1.25 million dollars. It is the first Counter-Strike Major staged in Southeast Asia.

Majors have historically been a European and North American fixture. Copenhagen, Cologne, Antwerp, Rio, Paris, Austin and Budapest cover most of the recent list, and the only previous Asian edition was Shanghai in 2024. The competitive centre of gravity in Counter-Strike has not moved to the region, and this is not a case of a Major following its player base.

What Singapore has is a track record of hosting. The International was held there in 2022 and the city has taken a Dota 2 Major before, and the Singapore Indoor Stadium is a purpose-built 12,000-seat venue rather than a converted conference hall. Its tourism board has been explicit about wanting large esports events, and that has generally meant public money.

This is PGL's fifth Major and its fourth in five years, which is an unusual concentration for a circuit that used to rotate organisers more evenly.

The format keeps the familiar three stages, with a best-of-five grand final over the closing four days. PGL has indicated it is considering moving Swiss stage matches to best-of-three, which would be a significant change. The Swiss stage currently produces most of the tournament's upsets precisely because a single map can eliminate a favourite, and best-of-three would make the early rounds fairer and considerably less volatile.

For the region, the more useful measure will be how many Southeast Asian teams qualify, rather than how many attend.
