The 2026 Apex Legends Global Series Championship was decided in Japan, and Japan kept winning: UNLIMIT then took the Apex event at the Esports World Cup on match point.
Oblivion won the 2026 Apex Legends Global Series Championship on 86 points, becoming the first team to come through a Last Chance Qualifier and win the title. The event was held at the Daiwa House Premist Dome in Sapporo from 15 to 18 January 2026, and sold more than thirty-eight thousand tickets.

Why the Last Chance Qualifier route had never worked
An LCQ exists to give teams that failed the main qualification path one more attempt. It is designed as a mercy bracket, and the teams that come through it arrive at the main event having already played a full tournament, seeded low, against opponents who are rested. In a battle royale format where placement points accumulate across many matches, starting behind is expensive. No LCQ team had ever converted it before.
Japan did not stop there
The Apex tournament at the 2026 Esports World Cup went to Japan's UNLIMIT, who took it on match point. Combined with a domestic ALGS Championship that filled a Sapporo dome, that is a strong year for a region that has been a consistent Apex power without an international title to match.
