A Kyrgyz Hunter Took Gold With a Hawk and Bronze With a Golden Eagle in the Salburun Events at the World Nomad Games
Eagle hunting, sighthound racing and hawk hunting were decided at Kurchin Gorge, with prize money paid in Kyrgyz som.
The salburun disciplines at the sixth World Nomad Games were decided at the Kurchin Gorge sports town in Kyrgyzstan between 2 and 5 September 2026. Salburun is a traditional hunting complex that combines work with golden eagles, hawks and taigan sighthounds.
In burkut saluu, golden eagle hunting, Tugulbai Abdykadyrov of Kyrgyzstan won and took 50,000 som. Arman Kushkarov of Kazakhstan was second on 40,000 som and Shamurat uulu Bakyt of Kyrgyzstan third on 30,000 som. Eighteen athletes from eight countries competed.
Taigan zharysh, racing with the Kyrgyz sighthound, went to Ravshanbek Kurbanov of Uzbekistan, ahead of Chatkalbai Zholdoshov of Kyrgyzstan and Azizjan Kerimov of Uzbekistan, from a field of eleven athletes from four countries.
Dalba oinotuu, hawk hunting, was won by Shamurat uulu Bakyt, with Bakdoelet Babajan and Erlan Kenjetaev of Kazakhstan second and third among ten athletes from five countries. Shamurat uulu Bakyt therefore finished the week with gold in the hawk event and bronze with the golden eagle.
