Indonesia Sent Four Hundred and Thirty Athletes to Aichi Nagoya and Set a Target of Four Gold Medals

The country won seven golds at Hangzhou in 2022, but three of those came in events that have been dropped from this programme.

Indonesia have sent 430 athletes to compete in 35 sports at the Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, and have set a target of at least four gold medals.

The figure is lower than the seven golds the country won at Hangzhou in 2022, but three of those came in events that are no longer on the programme. Officials have described four as a realistic objective given the changes.

Sport climbing is the biggest single hope, with nine athletes entered and two golds targeted. The squad includes Veddriq Leonardo, the Olympic speed climbing champion from Paris in 2024, and the lead climber Putra Tri Ramadani, who won gold at a World Climbing Series event in Prague.

Weightlifting is expected to produce one gold, with the Hangzhou champion Rahmat Erwin Abdullah and the Paris Olympic champion Rizki Juniansyah competing in different categories. One more is anticipated from the men's badminton team event, in which Jonatan Christie is among the players available. Cycling, skateboarding and wushu are seen as further medal chances.

The youth and sports minister, Erick Thohir, opened a support base called House of Indonesia in Nagoya on 19 September 2026, with bedrooms, meeting rooms and dining facilities for athletes and officials.
