Chelsea Complete British-Record £117m Deal for Morgan Rogers

Chelsea have completed a British transfer record, signing forward Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal worth £117 million. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, becoming the most expensive British player in the sport's history and surpassing the mark set earlier this summer when Elliot Anderson moved to Manchester City for £116 million.

Rogers leaves Champions League football behind at Villa Park to join a Chelsea side that will play without European competition in the 2026/27 campaign after finishing outside the qualifying places last season. Arsenal had also registered strong interest in the forward over the summer but were ultimately unwilling to match Chelsea's valuation.

The move reunites Rogers with Cole Palmer, his former Manchester City academy team-mate, raising early questions about how new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso will fit both attacking talents into the same side. Rogers previously impressed for Villa under Unai Emery after earlier spells with Manchester City and Middlesbrough, and has since become a full England international.

Financially, Chelsea have leaned on a busy summer of outgoing transfers to help fund the deal, having already recouped significant fees from a number of squad departures. The move also ties into a broader swap of business between Chelsea and Aston Villa, with winger Alejandro Garnacho poised to head in the opposite direction on loan.
