MPL MY S18: Team Flash beat Bigetron 2-1 as AC Esports stun Team Rey and SRG sweep Invictus Gaming
Saturday's MPL MY Week 8 results settled the six playoff places, with Team Flash in and RRQ Tora and AC Esports out despite AC's upset of Team Rey.
The MPL Malaysia Season 18 playoff picture is complete after Saturday's Week 8 action on 17 October. Team Flash beat Bigetron MY by VIT 2-1 to make sure of their place, AC Esports pulled off a 2-1 upset of Team Rey, and Selangor Red Giants swept Invictus Gaming 2-0 to move to 11 match wins and stay top. This follows on from Friday's report, when Team Vamos beat SRG to create a three-way tie at the top.
Team Flash get over the line
Team Flash had been left needing a result after losing 2-0 to Invictus Gaming on Friday, and their meeting with Bigetron MY went the distance. Flash came through 2-1 to finish the regular season with a 5-9 record and a game score of 13-19.
That win settles the race for the last playoff spot. RRQ Tora, on three match wins with one game left, can no longer catch Flash or Bigetron, who are both on five. The six playoff places therefore go to Selangor Red Giants, Team Rey, Team Vamos, Invictus Gaming, Bigetron MY and Team Flash, while RRQ Tora and AC Esports are out.
AC Esports bite back
AC Esports had little left to play for, but they still made a mark on the top of the table. They beat Team Rey 2-1 after a deciding third game, a costly loss for a Rey side that had been pushing for first place. Rey end their regular season at 10-4 with a game score of 22-11, and AC move to 3-10.
SRG on top
Selangor Red Giants bounced back from Friday's defeat to Team Vamos with a clean 2-0 win over Invictus Gaming. The result takes SRG to 11-3 with a game score of 24-8, the best in the league.
Only Team Vamos can still match SRG's 11 match wins, so SRG are guaranteed a top-two finish. Vamos sit on 10-3 with a 21-12 game score and play AC Esports in their final match, scheduled for 2.30pm on Sunday, 18 October. A Vamos win would draw them level with SRG on match wins and lift them above Team Rey.
Invictus Gaming finish the regular season at 7-7, locking in fourth place, as nobody below them can reach seven wins.
Last regular-season games
The final match of the regular season, RRQ Tora against Bigetron MY, was scheduled for 5pm Malaysia time on 18 October. Bigetron, at 5-8, can claim fifth place with a win; RRQ Tora are playing only for pride. The official standings before Sunday's games read:
