Riot Games Delayed League of Legends Team Voice Chat From Patch Twenty Six Point Twenty With No New Release Date
The long requested feature had been due to launch in North America and Oceania next month, with an Honor level requirement and voice changing tools to limit harassment.
Riot Games has postponed the launch of Team Voice in League of Legends, the development team announced on 22 September 2026. The voice chat feature had been scheduled to arrive on North American and Oceanic servers in Patch 26.20 in October.
"We announced Team Voice as coming to NA/OCE in Patch 26.20, but made the call to push it to meet the quality bar you deserve," the League dev team wrote on social media, as reported by Engadget. No revised release date was given, although Riot said the feature remains a priority.
Team Voice would allow teammates in a match to speak directly to one another, something players have requested for years. Riot's plans included limiting access to players at Honor level 3 or above and a voice changer to help obscure players' identities and reduce harassment.
Sheep Esports noted that moderation is a key concern given the game's reputation for toxic behaviour. A European release had already been held back because of the region's linguistic diversity, which makes detecting abuse more complex.
The delay does not affect competitive play, where teams already use their own communication systems.
Riot has not said when Team Voice will be tested again. Players will look for further updates in upcoming patch notes, with Worlds 2026 starting on 15 October in Los Angeles.
