Laver Cup Heads to London as Alcaraz and US Open Champion Zverev Lead Team Europe's Bid for Revenge

Team World defend their title at The O2 from 25 to 27 September. Agassi and Noah return as captains and Federer is back at the venue of his farewell.

The ninth Laver Cup starts at The O2 in London on Friday, 25 September. Team Europe are looking for a response after Team World beat them 15-9 in San Francisco last year.

Federer back where he said goodbye

On Wednesday, Roger Federer and Rod Laver joined the two captains, Yannick Noah for Team Europe and Andre Agassi for Team World, at The O2. The venue means a lot to Federer. He played the last match of his professional career there at the 2022 Laver Cup, a doubles match alongside Rafael Nadal against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.

The teams

Team Europe (captain Yannick Noah, vice-captain Tim Henman): Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Flavio Cobolli, Casper Ruud, Jakub Mensik, Rafael Jodar.

Team World (captain Andre Agassi, vice-captain Patrick Rafter): Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Alexander Bublik, Learner Tien, Francisco Cerundolo, Brandon Nakashima.

Zverev arrives in top form after beating Ben Shelton in four sets in the US Open final on 13 September, his second Grand Slam title of the year. Five of Europe's six players were also on last year's team. The only newcomer is 20-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar.

Team World have kept Fritz, de Minaur and Cerundolo. Tien, Nakashima and Bublik are making their debuts.

Agassi looking for a repeat

Agassi, 56, led Team World to the title last year, when they came back from 3-1 down after the first day. Fritz clinched it by beating Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4). The night before, Fritz had beaten Alcaraz 6-3, 6-2.

Agassi says he wants to guide his players without getting in their way. "I hope to give them a North Star to shoot towards," he told the official Laver Cup website.

Noah says his main job is to understand his players. "You have to listen to who they are, especially now that they come from all these different places in the world. Then you can actually help them," he said.

How the scoring works

  • Three days, five sessions
  • Day 1 matches are worth 1 point, Day 2 matches 2 points and Day 3 matches 3 points
  • The first team to 13 points (out of 24) wins

Because the later days are worth more, the result is often decided on Sunday. Team World won three of the past four editions, in 2022, 2023 and 2025.

Key takeaways

  • The Laver Cup runs from 25 to 27 September at The O2 in London.
  • Team World are the defending champions after winning 15-9 in 2025.
  • Zverev arrives as US Open champion, and Rafael Jodar is Team Europe's only newcomer.
  • The first team to 13 points wins, and matches are worth more on each day.
