WTA Finals 2026 field set: Muchova, Noskova and Andreeva debut at Indian Wells as Swiatek misses out

Rybakina leads an eight-woman field for the 8-15 November WTA Finals, moved from Riyadh to Indian Wells, with three debutants and no Iga Swiatek.

The eight-player line-up for the 2026 WTA Finals is complete, and it has a fresh look. Karolina Muchova claimed the last singles place after Marta Kostyuk retired injured in Ningbo, joining fellow first-timers Mirra Andreeva and Linda Noskova in a field led by world No. 1 and defending champion Elena Rybakina. Iga Swiatek, a former champion, will not be there. The season-ending event runs from 8 to 15 November at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, after being moved from its planned home in Riyadh.

Who has qualified

Rybakina was the first to book her place and arrives as the player to beat. She went unbeaten to win the 2025 title and this season has added the Australian Open, the US Open and Stuttgart. This is her fourth appearance at the Finals.

Aryna Sabalenka, second in the race, makes her fifth appearance. She was runner-up in 2022 and 2025, and her 2026 titles include Indian Wells itself, Miami and Brisbane. Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff both qualify for a fifth straight year. Gauff, champion in 2024, won Cincinnati this season, while Pegula's titles came in Dubai and Charleston.

Elina Svitolina returns for the first time since 2019. The Ukrainian won the event in 2018 and reached the field this year on the back of titles at the Italian Open and in Auckland.

Three debutants

Andreeva, still a teenager, qualified third in the race after a breakthrough season that brought her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, along with Adelaide and Linz. She was an unused alternate at last year's event.

Noskova, the 2026 Wimbledon champion, also won in Berlin and is one of three Grand Slam winners from this season in the field, alongside Rybakina and Andreeva. Muchova, whose year included her first WTA 1000 title in Qatar and a win in Bad Homburg, completed the line-up during the Ningbo event, after Kostyuk retired from her opening match there.

Swiatek misses out

Swiatek's absence is the biggest talking point. The Pole withdrew from the Ningbo Open with a left thigh injury, ending her chances of overtaking Muchova, and she has since brought her 2026 season to a close. Kostyuk, who was also still in contention, finishes outside the top eight after her retirement in Ningbo.

The two alternate places for the singles event had not been confirmed at the time of the field announcement, with Iva Jovic and Maja Chwalinska named as next in line.

Format and venue

The Finals were originally scheduled for Riyadh but were relocated to Indian Wells because of safety concerns in the region. Total prize money is US$15.5 million. As in previous years, the eight singles players are split into two round-robin groups of four. The top two from each group advance to the semi-finals, where group winners face the runners-up from the other group, and the semi-final winners meet in the title match. Eight doubles teams compete in the same format, with Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens the defending doubles champions.

Because Indian Wells is 16 hours behind Malaysia in November, evening sessions in California will fall during Malaysian late morning and early afternoon the following day.
