Mourinho Takes Real Madrid Back Into Europe Against Inter on Tuesday and It Is Three in the Morning Here
Kick-off is nine in the evening in Madrid. Matchday one of the league phase runs across three nights this season.
The Champions League league phase starts on Tuesday 8 September and runs across three nights to Thursday 10 September, rather than the usual two.
Real Madrid play Inter at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday at nine in the evening Madrid time, which is three on Wednesday morning in Malaysia and Singapore and two in Thailand. The earlier slot each night is quarter to seven in Madrid, which is quarter to one in the morning here.
It is Jose Mourinho's first European night back at the club. He was appointed on 11 June on a three year deal and took over on 13 July, replacing Alvaro Arbeloa and arriving from Benfica. His first spell ran from 2010 to 2013 and produced the 2012 league title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Real finished last season without a major trophy for the second year running, going out of this competition in the quarter-finals.
The two clubs have met thirteen times in the Champions League, most recently in 2021/22. Inter are coached by Cristian Chivu.
Other fixtures in the window include Liverpool against Atletico Madrid, Napoli against Arsenal and Barcelona against Feyenoord on the Wednesday.
The league phase is 36 teams over eight matchdays and runs to 27 January. The final is at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid on 5 June 2027, so a Madrid club that goes all the way would finish across the city from home.
