Nicolo Tresoldi hat-trick as Club Brugge stun Inter 4-3 at San Siro; Barcelona and Arsenal also win
Nicolo Tresoldi scored a hat-trick as Club Brugge beat Inter 4-3 in Milan, while Barcelona came from behind to win 4-1 at Galatasaray and Arsenal beat Lille 3-0.
Club Brugge produced the upset of Tuesday night's Champions League action on 13 October, winning 4-3 against Inter at San Siro as 22-year-old striker Nicolo Tresoldi scored a hat-trick. The match finished in the early hours of Wednesday Malaysia time, on a night when Barcelona came from behind to win 4-1 at Galatasaray and Arsenal beat Lille 3-0 at the Emirates.
Tresoldi's night in Milan
Tresoldi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half after Hakan Calhanoglu fouled Carlos Forbs. Lautaro Martinez levelled just before half-time, in the 44th minute, but the Belgian side took control after the break.
Soon after the hour, Tresoldi rolled the ball into an empty net following a poor pass-back to Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez. Around the 74th minute he completed his hat-trick by following up a rebound off the post. Lautaro pulled one back to make it 3-2, Romeo Vermant restored Brugge's two-goal cushion in the 87th minute, and Ange-Yoan Bonny's stoppage-time strike for Inter came too late.
Tresoldi, who described it as a dream night, became the first Brugge player to score a Champions League hat-trick, according to FotMob. Former Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, back at San Siro in Brugge's goal, also made an early save from Lautaro.
What it means for Inter and Brugge
Cristian Chivu's Inter lead Serie A but are still without a point in Europe after losing their opener 2-1 to Real Madrid. FotMob noted it was the first time Inter have lost four Champions League matches in a row. Brugge, beaten 3-2 at home by Aston Villa on matchday one, have their first win of the campaign and became the first Belgian club to beat Inter in the competition.
Inter host Shakhtar Donetsk next, while Brugge welcome Lens.
Barcelona turn it around in Istanbul
Hansi Flick's Barcelona fell behind at RAMS Park when Aleksei Batrakov scored for Galatasaray in the 28th minute, and the hosts also had a second goal ruled out by VAR. Joao Cancelo equalised shortly before half-time.
Barcelona then scored three times in 15 minutes after the break. Fermin Lopez headed in a Lamine Yamal cross in the 50th minute, Anthony Gordon made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute after more good work from Yamal, and Karim Adeyemi completed the 4-1 win in the 65th minute. Barcelona were without Raphinha, who has a hamstring injury.
Arsenal's seven-minute burst
Arsenal laboured through a goalless first half against Lille, but Mikel Arteta's second-half changes lifted the tempo. Jurrien Timber opened the scoring, Eberechi Eze added a second shortly after a triple substitution, and Bukayo Saka finished a cut-back from Kai Havertz four minutes later. The three goals came within roughly seven minutes. Arsenal next face Bayern Munich in Munich.
