Chinese Taipei's Women Beat Germany in Sudden Death to Win a Fifth Straight Tug of War World Title

The junior women's 480 kilogramme squad also retained its title, and six more Chinese Taipei teams were due to pull on Saturday.

Chinese Taipei's senior women won the 500kg class at the Tug of War World Championships in Mossel Bay, South Africa, on 18 September 2026, a fifth consecutive world title in the category.

The final against Germany turned on the opening end. Chinese Taipei were trailing by about 50 centimetres and the pull had gone to sudden death when Germany conceded a third offence, which handed the end to the Asian side. Chinese Taipei then controlled the second end to close out the match.

Team leader Hung Ning-hsuan said the soil had loosened in the middle of the match and almost cost his side the first end, and that the pullers kept encouraging one another before securing the title.

It was not the only medal of the day. Chinese Taipei's junior women took the 480kg title for a second year in a row, and the men finished third in the 600kg class. Over the first two days of the championships the delegation had already collected 3 golds and 3 bronzes in the open club events.

Six more Chinese Taipei teams were entered for 19 September, the second day of national team competition and the closing day of the 30th edition of the outdoor world championships.
