Europe's major leagues each opened their weekend with a single fixture on Friday 11 September, and the away sides took three of the four.
In Serie A, Fiorentina won 4-2 at Venezia. Akor Adams put the hosts ahead in the twenty-second minute, but Franco Mastantuono scored in the twenty-eighth and thirtieth minutes to turn the match, Matias Pellegrino added a fourth-quarter goal in the sixty-sixth minute and Mastantuono completed his hat-trick in the eighty-fourth. Hainaut pulled one back late. It was Fiorentina's first win of the season after three straight defeats and the dismissal of Fabio Grosso, and the first under Paolo Vanoli. Venezia have now lost five of six.
In La Liga, Sevilla beat Valencia 1-0 through a Juan Iglesias header from a Giorgi Kochorashvili free-kick in the eighty-first minute. Sevilla move up to third; Valencia are bottom with a single point after a 5-0 defeat by Barcelona.
In the Bundesliga, Schalke won 3-1 at Union Berlin through Robin Gosens, Adil Aouchiche and an injury-time goal from Maximilian Wober, with Tim Skarke replying. It was Schalke's first win since promotion. In Ligue 1, Adrien Thomasson scored the only goal as Rennes won at Marseille to go temporarily top, leaving Marseille with a third consecutive defeat.
