Japan's Ai Ogura returns in Austria after surgery on a thumb he fractured in a motocross training accident at home.
The MotoGP world championship moves to the Red Bull Ring in Austria from 18 to 20 September 2026, with Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin level on 274 points at the top of the standings with eight rounds remaining.
Marquez leads on Grand Prix wins after completing a sprint and Grand Prix double at Misano on 13 September. MCNews reported that he has erased a 102-point deficit in seven rounds. At Misano, Martin passed Marquez for the lead but slipped to fifth as arm pump affected his race, while Marco Bezzecchi fell at Turn 13 on the first lap after leading.
Bezzecchi is third on 241 points, ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio on 223, Pedro Acosta on 209 and Ai Ogura on 203. Ducati has nine Austrian Grand Prix wins, including Marquez's first victory at the circuit last year, according to MCNews, which said Aprilia were looking for a weekend where pace turned into points.
Ogura travels to Austria after surgery and intensive rehabilitation on a fractured left thumb, which he suffered in a motocross training accident in Japan. "I'm feeling good. The hand situation is better than expected," the Japanese rider said, adding that he wanted a normal weekend.
The sprint starts at 3pm local time on Saturday 19 September, and the Grand Prix begins at 2pm local time on Sunday 20 September, which is 8pm in Singapore and Malaysia, according to Crash.net.
