Ireland's National Ploughing Championships Closed at Screggan With Two Hundred and Forty Three Thousand Visitors
The ninety fifth championships drew 75,000 people on the final day and will move to Boherkill Farm in Rathangan, County Kildare, next September.
Ireland's National Ploughing Championships closed at Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on 17 September 2026, with organisers reporting 243,000 visitors across the three days of the 95th event.
The National Ploughing Association put attendance at 77,000 on the first day, 91,000 on the second and 75,000 on the final day. The three day total was up by roughly 18,000 on the previous year.
Fine weather held for much of the closing day, when the programme included the senior conventional and Kverneland reversible test matches, horse ploughing and a vintage six nations competition. Olivia Nash of Co. Dublin won the senior brown bread baking title and 15 year old Cara Wall, also from Dublin, took the junior class.
NPA managing director Anna May McHugh said organisers were delighted with how the three days had gone and praised the atmosphere across the site.
The championships will move to Boherkill Farm at Rathangan, Co. Kildare, from 21 to 23 September 2027, a week later than usual because of the Ryder Cup. Local officials have estimated the event could be worth between 50 million and 100 million euro to towns including Rathangan, Newbridge and Edenderry.
