Premier League Clubs Have Six Days Left as the Summer Window Closes on 31 August
The window opened on 15 June and shuts on 31 August, six days into a season that started late because of the World Cup. Two matchweeks of results have already changed what some squads need.
The Premier League summer transfer window closes on 31 August, which leaves clubs six days and one more round of fixtures to fix whatever the opening weeks exposed.
A window that outlives the kick-off
The window opened on 15 June and runs almost eleven weeks. The season started on 22 August and ends on 30 May 2027 - both shifted back a week from the usual pattern to make room for the 2026 World Cup.
| Date | |
|---|---|
| 15 June 2026 | Window opens |
| 17 June 2026 | Fixtures released |
| 22 August 2026 | Season starts |
| 31 August 2026 | Window closes |
| 30 May 2027 | Final matchweek |
The calendar carries 33 weekends and five midweek rounds, and there is no fixture on Christmas Day.
What the opening weekend already told clubs
Matchweek one produced results that will have moved some boardrooms:
| Match | Score |
|---|---|
| Brighton - Aston Villa | 4-0 |
| Arsenal - Coventry | 3-0 |
| Brentford - Tottenham | 3-0 |
| Hull City - Manchester United | 2-0 |
| Leeds United - Nottingham Forest | 1-0 |
| Newcastle - Liverpool | 2-2 |
Two heavy defeats for sides with European ambitions, and a promoted Hull City beating Manchester United, is the kind of opening fortnight that turns a want-list into a deadline-day bid.
Deal sheets
Clubs that have agreed a transfer but cannot complete the paperwork before the deadline can submit a deal sheet, which buys a short extension to file the remaining documents. It does not allow a club to start negotiating after the bell - the deal has to be agreed first.
Following it on Playdash
Playdash runs next-club and transfer specials through deadline week, alongside standard match markets on every fixture. Season-long outrights - title, top four, relegation, top goalscorer - stay open and reprice as squads change, and manager markets move quickly once a window shuts and results stop having an excuse.
