Brian Brobbey Scored a Hat Trick but Manchester City Beat Sunderland Five Three to Stay Top of the Premier League

Erling Haaland's late goal meant he has now scored against all 25 Premier League opponents he has faced, as Antoine Semenyo also struck twice.

Manchester City beat Sunderland 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium on 20 September 2026 despite a hat-trick from Brian Brobbey, keeping their perfect record and a 3 point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Enzo Fernandez gave City the lead with a free kick in the 9th minute, but Brobbey equalised 3 minutes later and scored again in the 33rd minute. Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo also scored before half-time as the teams went in with City 3-2 ahead.

Semenyo added his second goal after the break and Brobbey completed his hat-trick to keep Sunderland in contention, before Erling Haaland settled the eight goal contest late on. City had also led 1-0 and 2-1 only to be pegged back each time by the Dutch striker.

Haaland's goal meant the Norwegian has now scored against all 25 Premier League opponents he has faced. City are the only side to have won every league match this season, with 15 points from 5 games, 3 more than Arsenal, who lost 3-0 at Brighton on Saturday.

In Sunday's other Premier League matches, Liverpool won 1-0 at Bournemouth and Fulham drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Craven Cottage.
