DFB-Pokal: Olise double leads Bayern's 6-1 rout of Magdeburg as Dresden knock out Schalke

Bayern hit six past Magdeburg with Harry Kane on the bench. Leverkusen came from 2-0 down, Holstein Kiel beat Hoffenheim on penalties and Dresden beat Schalke.

Bayern Munich went through to the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night with a 6-1 win over Magdeburg, even though new Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane stayed on the bench all game. Michael Olise scored twice. It was not such a good night for every Bundesliga club: Hoffenheim lost on penalties at Holstein Kiel and Schalke were beaten by Dynamo Dresden, while Bayer Leverkusen needed a big second-half comeback against Nürnberg.

Bayern cruise without Kane

Olise opened the scoring after ten minutes. Mateusz Zukowski equalised for Magdeburg five minutes later, but Ismael Saibari put Bayern back in front in the 21st minute and they led 2-1 at the break. Olise scored a penalty six minutes into the second half, and Alphonso Davies (70') and Nathaniel Brown (73') made sure of the win. David Santos added a sixth in stoppage time. Kane stayed on the bench for the full 90 minutes.

Leverkusen recover from 2-0 down

At the BayArena, Miroslav Klose's Nürnberg made a fast start. Rafael Lubach (13') and Sigurd Haugen (30') put them 2-0 up. Edmond Tapsoba headed in from a corner just before half-time to make it 2-1, and coach Carles Martínez brought on three substitutes at the break, including Patrik Schick. The changes worked. Tapsoba scored again from another corner in the 49th minute, Schick put Leverkusen ahead with a penalty in the 70th, and Jonas Hofmann (78') and Lucas Vázquez (89') made the final score 5-2. The crowd was 29,681.

Upsets in Dresden and Kiel

Dynamo Dresden beat newly promoted Bundesliga side Schalke 2-0. Patrice Čović, son of former Bundesliga player and coach Ante Čović, scored the first goal in the 53rd minute and Christoph Daferner added the second two minutes from time.

Second-tier Holstein Kiel beat Hoffenheim. Adam Hlozek gave the visitors an 11th-minute lead, Adrian Kapralik equalised for Kiel in the 23rd minute, and there were no more goals in 120 minutes. Kiel won the shootout 4-3, and goalkeeper Lio Rothenhagen was the hero after saving from Hoffenheim's Mats Rots.

Kaiserslautern won 2-0 at Hannover, with Milos Lukovic (13') and Ivan Prtajin (86') scoring.

Late winners for Stuttgart and Freiburg

VfB Stuttgart were held at Paderborn until Deniz Undav scored in the first minute of stoppage time to win 1-0. Freiburg trailed Wolfsburg 2-1 at half-time and won 3-2 thanks to two goals from Keisuke Goto, the second in the 93rd minute. Hertha Berlin, top of the 2. Bundesliga, won 2-0 at fourth-tier Jeddeloh II with goals from Josip Brekalo and Julian Eitschberger.

These games followed Tuesday's ties, which included Borussia Dortmund's 3-2 win over Werder Bremen, Cologne's 5-0 win over Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt's 3-1 win at Hamburg. The round of 16 is scheduled for 1-2 December 2026.
