Kyrgyzstan Beat Kazakhstan Twelve Nil in the Kok Boru Final at the World Nomad Games in Front of Thirty Thousand
The hosts also won the kokpar final seven-two on the same day, sweeping both mounted team events at Cholpon-Ata on Lake Issyk-Kul.
Kyrgyzstan beat Kazakhstan 12-0 in the kok-boru final at the World Nomad Games on 6 September 2026. The match was played at the Kok-Boru Arena in Cholpon-Ata on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in front of more than 30,000 spectators. Russia took bronze.
Kok-boru is played on horseback, with riders carrying and throwing a weighted goat-carcass dummy known as an ulak into their opponents' goal. Kyrgyz scorers in the third period included Baytegin Omorbekov, Ernazar Koshumbaev, Mirbek Mukashev and Anarbek uulu Seitbek. On the same day the hosts also beat Kazakhstan 7-2 in the kokpar final, completing a sweep of both mounted team events.
Before the final, several men tried to force a police cordon into the stands and were detained. Play was unaffected.
This was the sixth edition of the games, held from 31 August to 7 September 2026, with the opening and closing ceremonies in Bishkek and competition at Cholpon-Ata. More than 3,000 athletes from 109 countries competed across around forty disciplines, with Afghanistan, Cape Verde, Algeria, Barbados, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Bhutan and Croatia taking part for the first time. The next edition will be held in Kazan in 2028.
