Cowboys beat Hurts-less Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night Football as Javonte Williams runs for 155 yards

Dak Prescott threw three TD passes and Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards as Dallas ended a two-game slide and dropped Philadelphia to 2-5.

The Dallas Cowboys are back in the NFC East race. On Monday Night Football they beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 in Philadelphia. Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards and Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes. The win ended a two-game losing streak and took Dallas to 3-4, while the Eagles, without injured quarterback Jalen Hurts, fell to 2-5.

Williams does the damage on the ground

Dallas ran for 204 yards as a team. Williams had 155 of them on 25 carries and scored the final touchdown on a two-yard run. He is the first Cowboys player to rush for 150 yards in a game since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018. ESPN said it was also the first time since 1983 that Dallas had gained more than 200 yards both rushing and passing against Philadelphia.

Prescott threw for 212 yards. His touchdown passes went to CeeDee Lamb (9 yards), George Pickens (21 yards) and Lamb again (16 yards), and he ran in a two-point conversion himself. Kicker Brandon Aubrey added field goals from 55, 27 and 24 yards.

How the game went

Dallas kicked a field goal on their opening drive, and Saquon Barkley answered with an eight-yard touchdown run for Philadelphia. The Cowboys led 20-14 at half-time. In the third quarter, Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee found Makai Lemon for a four-yard touchdown that put Philadelphia ahead 21-20.

Dallas took the lead back straight away. Lamb's second touchdown and Prescott's two-point run made it 28-21, and the Eagles did not score again. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, playing for the first time since a Week 1 hamstring injury, made a diving interception of McKee in the fourth quarter. The Dallas defence also sacked McKee twice and kept Philadelphia scoreless in the fourth.

Eagles' injury problems

The Eagles were again without Hurts, who is expected to miss the rest of the season after blood clots were found in his lungs. McKee went 23-of-35 for 211 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Barkley was back after more than two games out with a hamstring injury and ran for 62 yards on seven carries, but he needed treatment for hamstring and back problems during the game. Kick returner Britain Covey hurt his knee in the first quarter, and wide receiver DeVonta Smith did not play.

The NFC East picture

The New York Giants lead the division at 4-2-1. Dallas are a game and a half behind at 3-4, and Philadelphia are at the bottom at 2-5. Prescott said the division is there for Dallas to win, "as long as we win". ESPN Analytics now makes the Cowboys favourites to win the NFC East.

Next weekend Dallas host the Arizona Cardinals, and the Eagles play at Washington on Sunday night.
