Marc Marquez Won at Misano to Draw Level With Jorge Martin at the Top of the MotoGP Standings
The Ducati rider was 102 points behind after the Italian Grand Prix in May and now leads on countback after completing a sprint and race double.
Marc Marquez won the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano on 13 September 2026, beating his brother Alex by 0.657 seconds to move level with Aprilia's Jorge Martin on 274 points and take the MotoGP championship lead on countback.
The Ducati rider completed a sprint and race double over the weekend. Pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi took the holeshot but crashed out of the lead at Turn 13 on the opening lap, and Francesco Bagnaia was also among the riders who failed to finish. Only 14 of the 21 starters reached the flag.
Martin took the lead on lap 7 before Marquez passed him again on lap 12 of 27. Martin then struggled with arm pump and finished fifth, 14.021 seconds behind. Alex Marquez closed to within 0.405 seconds late in the race on his Gresini Ducati but could not find a way past. KTM's Pedro Acosta was third, 2.326 seconds back, ahead of Fermin Aldeguer.
"When you race with this kind of pace, it's easy to make a mistake," Marquez said, according to MCNews. It was his fifth Grand Prix win of 2026, and he is the first Ducati rider to lead the standings this season. He was 102 points behind after Mugello in May and has scored 203 points since, compared with 118 for Martin.
Bezzecchi is third in the standings on 241 points, ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio on 223. The next round is the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring from 18 to 20 September 2026.
