Ligue 1 2026/27 Kicks Off August 21 With 12 New Managers and Every Match on Ligue 1+
Paris Saint-Germain open at home to Rennes after a fifth straight title won on 76 points. Twelve of the 18 clubs changed head coach over the summer and there are no midweek rounds all season.
Ligue 1 came back on 21 August with a full 34-round calendar, every match on the league's own platform and no midweek fixtures at all. Paris Saint-Germain opened at home to Rennes and Marseille hosted Strasbourg, but the bigger story is the dugouts: 12 of the 18 clubs changed head coach over the summer.
Twelve new benches
Bruno Genesio left Lille for Marseille and was replaced at Lille by Davide Ancelotti. Monaco appointed Filipe Luis, Lens brought in Dino Toppmoller after Pierre Sage joined Crystal Palace, and Paris FC hired Liam Rosenior. Auxerre gave the job to Will Still, Strasbourg to Hugo Oliveira, Toulouse to Jens Berthel Askou and Nice to Olivier Pantaloni, whose old job at Lorient went to Alexandre Dujeux.
Turnover on that scale is the hardest thing to price in August. New coaches change pressing height, set-piece routines and rotation patterns, and the first six rounds are usually where the market catches up with them.
What PSG are defending
PSG won a fifth straight title in 2025/26 on 76 points, six clear of Lens on 70, with 74 scored and 29 conceded. Lille finished on 61, Lyon 60, and Marseille and Rennes tied on 59. Esteban Lepaul was the division's top scorer with 21 goals.
Luis Enrique stays in charge, but the squad has moved. Goncalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani and Kang-in Lee all left over the summer, with Maghnes Akliouche arriving from Monaco.
Up, down and the shape of the calendar
Troyes are back after three years and Le Mans after 16, replacing Metz and Nantes. Nice survived through the relegation play-off after finishing 16th.
The season runs to 29 May 2027 across 306 matches. It breaks after matchday 14 on the weekend of 12 December and resumes on the weekend of 2 January, with the final two rounds played as simultaneous multiplexes on 22 and 29 May.
