Buriram, Ratchaburi and Cong An Ha Noi all lose by a goal as JDT are only SEA winners in ACL Elite East

Late goals and an own goal left Buriram United, Ratchaburi and Cong An Ha Noi beaten 1-0 on ACL Elite matchday two, while JDT won 2-0 in Pohang.

Tuesday, 13 October, was a frustrating night for most of Southeast Asia's clubs in the AFC Champions League Elite. Thai champions Buriram United lost 1-0 at home to Beijing FC, Ratchaburi were beaten by a late Kyoto Sanga goal in Japan, and Vietnam's Cong An Ha Noi went down 1-0 to Kashima Antlers in Hanoi. All three defeats came by a single goal, and Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'zim were the region's only winners on East region matchday two after a 2-0 victory over Pohang Steelers.

Buriram undone by Beijing substitutes

Buriram had looked the more threatening side for spells of the second half at home, but Beijing coach Ricardo Montgomery changed the game from the bench. Around the hour mark he brought on three players, among them Fabio Abreu and Lin Liangming.

The changes paid off in the closing stages. Lin won an aerial duel and Abreu headed the only goal of the game late in the second half. Reports differ by a minute on the exact time of the goal, but not on the outcome: Beijing have now won both of their opening matches.

For Buriram, it was a first defeat of the campaign. Their opening game ended 1-1 against JDT in Iskandar Puteri in September, so the Thai side have one point from two matches.

Ratchaburi caught late in Kameoka

Ratchaburi came close to taking a point from their trip to Japan. Kyoto Sanga, who had lost their opening game to Daejeon Hana Citizen, needed a substitute to break the deadlock. Temma Matsuda, introduced in the second half, scored the winner in the 88th minute.

The defeat leaves Ratchaburi without a point and without a goal after two matches, a tough start to the campaign for the Thai club.

Own goal costs Cong An Ha Noi

In Hanoi, Cong An Ha Noi held Kashima Antlers goalless through the first half. The breakthrough came in the 61st minute, when the ball was turned into the home side's net by one of their own defenders, beating goalkeeper Filip Nguyen.

Kashima, who opened their campaign with a comfortable win over Newcastle Jets, now have six points from two games. Cong An Ha Noi remain on zero after their second straight loss.

Elsewhere in the East

Japanese clubs had a strong night. As well as Kyoto and Kashima, Gamba Osaka came from behind to win 3-1 at Newcastle Jets. Nikolaos Vergos gave the Australian side the lead before Yusei Toshida, substitute Deniz Hummet and Welton Felipe scored for Gamba, who have also won both games. In China, Shanghai Port and Daejeon Hana Citizen drew 1-1, with Prince Ampem's opener cancelled out five minutes later by Diogo.

JDT's win in Pohang came against ten men after Pohang captain Jeon Min-gwang was sent off before half-time, with Marcos Guilherme scoring twice.
