FA Cup semi-finals: JDT win 2-0 in Brunei as Eduardo Sosa double gives Selangor edge over Kuching City

JDT beat DPMM 2-0 in Bandar Seri Begawan, and two goals from Eduardo Sosa gave Selangor a 2-1 win over Kuching City in the FA Cup semi-final first legs.

Johor Darul Ta'zim and Selangor both won their FA Cup semi-final first legs on Friday night and now hold the advantage going into the return games. JDT won 2-0 against DPMM FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan. Selangor came from behind to beat Kuching City 2-1 at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya, with Eduardo Sosa scoring both goals. If the favourites go through on 8 November, the final would be a repeat of the 2024 final between JDT and Selangor.

JDT control the game in Brunei

Coach Xisco Munoz had said before the match that DPMM would defend deep and look to counter-attack. He planned to rotate his squad, but JDT still controlled the game. Bergson da Silva scored in the 21st minute, and Eddy Israfilov made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute to give the Southern Tigers a clear lead to take home.

JDT have already won this competition in 2016, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. They are trying to reach a fifth consecutive FA Cup final. According to Kosmo, no club had previously reached more than two finals in a row since the competition began in 1990. Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and Kelantan each managed two.

Sosa turns it around for Selangor

The tie in Petaling Jaya was much closer. Kuching City scored first in the ninth minute. Ramadhan Saifullah ran from his own half, went past Safuwan Baharudin and finished with his left foot.

Selangor equalised less than ten minutes later. Hugo Boumous laid the ball off and Sosa shot past Kuching goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli. Early in the second half, Jerome Mpacko Etame missed a one-on-one chance to put Kuching back in front. Selangor then broke quickly after a Kuching corner, and Sosa scored again to make it 2-1.

Kuching had more chances late in the game. Dylan Wenzel-Halls forced a strong save from the Selangor goalkeeper, and Gabriel Peres headed against the crossbar in stoppage time. Because the margin is only one goal, Kuching still have a realistic chance of turning the tie around at home.

Second legs on 8 November

Both second legs are on Sunday 8 November. Kuching City host Selangor in Kuching, and JDT host DPMM at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri later that evening. The first legs were shown on Astro Arena Bola channels and streamed on Astro GO and Sooka. Broadcast details for the return games are still to be confirmed.

What it means for the season

A two-goal win and a clean sheet away from home put JDT in a strong position as they chase more silverware. Selangor go to Kuching with a lead, but only a one-goal lead. Kuching created several good chances late in the first leg, which shows they can hurt Selangor. Both clubs will also be watching their Super League fixtures before the second legs.
