Alexander Zverev Won Two Tie-Breaks Against Karen Khachanov to Reach a Third Consecutive Grand Slam Final
The top seed beat Khachanov 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 at Flushing Meadows and has now won thirteen sets in a row.
Alexander Zverev, the top seed at the United States Open, beat Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 in the first men's semi-final on 11 September. The two tie-breaks were decided 9-7 and 8-6.
The win takes the German into a third consecutive Grand Slam final. He won the French Open in June and was runner-up at Wimbledon, and his record in Grand Slam matches in 2026 now stands at twenty-four wins and two defeats. He has won thirteen sets in succession.
Khachanov had arrived in New York with a losing record for the season. He reached his second United States Open semi-final but has still to contest a Grand Slam final.
Zverev meets Ben Shelton, who beat Frances Tiafoe in the other semi-final, in the final on Sunday 13 September.
