WTA Finals 2026 draw: Rybakina opens title defence v Noskova as Sabalenka leads Group 2 at Indian Wells
Rybakina, Gauff, Pegula and Noskova form Group 1, and Sabalenka, Andreeva, Svitolina and Muchova form Group 2. Play starts 8 November, which is 4am Monday in Malaysia.
World No. 1 Elena Rybakina will open her WTA Finals title defence against Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova. The groups for the 2026 season finale were drawn at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California on Tuesday, 3 November. Rybakina is in Group 1 with Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. Aryna Sabalenka heads Group 2 with Mirra Andreeva, Elina Svitolina and Karolina Muchova. The tournament runs from 8 to 15 November, and its opening matches fall in the early hours of Monday morning in Malaysia.
The groups
Group 1: Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Linda Noskova
Group 2: Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Elina Svitolina, Karolina Muchova
Each player meets the other three in her group, and the top two from each group go through to the semi-finals. The draw puts both Americans in Group 1, along with two former champions: Rybakina won in 2025 and Gauff won in 2024. Group 2 has the 2018 champion, Svitolina, and two debutants, Andreeva and Muchova. Noskova is also making her first appearance.
A new home after Riyadh
This is the first WTA Finals held at Indian Wells. The event was due to stay in Riyadh, which hosted the previous two editions, but in July the WTA moved it to the United States because of security concerns in the region. The new venue should suit Sabalenka, who won the Indian Wells title in March as part of a Sunshine Double with Miami.
The Belarusian goes into the week chasing the one big title she has never won. She lost the Finals final in 2022 and again in 2025, and according to the WTA's own preview, 2026 was her first season without a Grand Slam title since 2022. Rybakina also ended Sabalenka's 99-week run at world No. 1 this season, after beating her in both of her Grand Slam finals.
Who's in form
Rybakina has had the best season of her career. The WTA lists three titles for her in 2026: the Australian Open, Stuttgart and the US Open. Andreeva, at a career-high No. 3, won her first major at Roland Garros and was level with Pegula for the most match wins on tour, according to the WTA's mid-October field guide. Pegula has passed 50 wins this season and has reached five finals, but has lost her last three finals, in Berlin, Washington and Cincinnati.
Noskova won Wimbledon as the No. 9 seed but pulled out of Wuhan in October with a left calf injury. The WTA said she was expected to be fit for California. Muchova took the eighth and final place after a season that included the Doha title and a run to the Wimbledon final. Svitolina is back at the Finals for the first time in seven years, after winning the biggest title of her career in Rome.
