Tokyo Auto Salon Malaysia 2026: bigger venue, live drifting and JDM heaven at MAEPS

The former Tokyo Auto Salon KL has a new name, a new home in Serdang and an outdoor drift arena. Here's what to expect from 2–4 October.

Malaysia's biggest JDM and car-culture show is back with a new name and a lot more space.

Tokyo Auto Salon Malaysia 2026 (TASM) runs 2–4 October at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Selangor, from 10am to 10pm daily. It replaces Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur, which ran for three editions from 2023 to 2025. The previous organiser, Element X Strategies, chose not to renew the licence in June.

What's new

  • A much bigger venue. Moving from MITEC to MAEPS gives the show both indoor halls and a large outdoor area. Organisers say it will "evolve into a festival where people can not only see cars but also experience them."
  • Live drift demos. The biggest addition is a dedicated outdoor drift area, which the KL edition never had. You'll hear the tyre smoke before you see it.
  • Direct from Japan. The show is run by the TAS Malaysia organising committee and the Tokyo Auto Salon Federation, together with San-Ei, which owns the Tokyo Auto Salon brand. Exhibitor applications from Japanese aftermarket companies were opened for this edition, so expect product launches and concept builds straight from the Makuhari Messe scene.

What you'll see

  • Custom show cars and tuner builds. Last year's show included R34 GT-Rs, Porsche 911 GT3 RS models and classic restorations
  • Aftermarket and styling vendors, from wheels and body kits to exhausts
  • Live stage shows featuring A-class, the official Tokyo Auto Salon image girls from Japan
  • Event-exclusive merchandise like wheel models, apparel and stickers

Hollywood cameo? Fast & Furious actor Sung Kang (Han) was teased as a guest by a partner on Instagram in August. Organisers haven't confirmed what he'll do or when, so check TASM's official channels before planning your day around a meet-and-greet.

PlayDash tips

  • Go on Friday if you want space to take photos. The weekend will be crowded, especially since F1 is on at Sepang at the same time.
  • Stay for the evening. It's open until 10pm, and the halls and drift area are much cooler after sunset.
  • Plan around the drift sessions. Check the programme when it's out and arrive early for a good spot by the barrier.
  • Getting there: MAEPS is in Serdang, near UPM. Driving is easiest. If you're using public transport, take rail to the nearest station and e-hail the last stretch.

For JDM fans, this is the closest thing to Tokyo's January show without flying to Chiba.
