The United States Swept Both Hurdles Titles in Budapest as Masai Russell Extended Her Winning Run to Thirteen Meetings
Russell won the 100m hurdles in 12.22 and twenty-year-old Ja'Kobe Tharp took the 110m hurdles in 12.94 as American men filled the top four places.
Both hurdles finals at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship were held in Budapest on 11 September, and both went to the United States.
Masai Russell won the women's 100m hurdles in 12.22, finishing 0.12 clear of the former world record holder Tobi Amusan. The win extended her streak to thirteen consecutive meetings and left her unbeaten in fourteen races in 2026, a season in which she set a world record two weeks earlier. She had finished fourth at the 2025 World Championships. Russell said the only person stopping her had been herself, and that she was blessed to have those accolades next to her name.
In the men's 110m hurdles, Ja'Kobe Tharp won in 12.94, one hundredth of a second ahead of his compatriot Cordell Tinch. American hurdlers took the first four places. Tharp is twenty and holds the world record of 12.75, set at the NCAA Championships in June before he turned professional after his junior year at Auburn. He noted that not many hurdlers could say they had done this much at twenty years old.
The Olympic champion Grant Holloway was absent from the field after tearing a hamstring in March.
