MPL ID S18 final week: NAVI and Team Liquid ID chase top-two finish as Alter Ego need help in Week 9

NAVI and Team Liquid ID are both on 11 wins going into MPL ID S18 Week 9. Alter Ego can still catch them if results go their way.

The six MPL Indonesia Season 18 playoff teams are already known, but the final regular-season week still decides where they are seeded. Week 9 runs from Friday 16 October to Sunday 18 October. NAVI and Team Liquid ID go in level on 11 match wins, and Alter Ego two wins behind. This preview follows on from the Week 8 results, when RRQ Hoshi missed the playoffs and the six qualifiers were confirmed.

The standings before Week 9

NAVI top the table on 11-3 with a 23-9 game record. Team Liquid ID have the same number of wins but have played one match more (11-4, 24-11). Alter Ego are third on 9-5 (20-11). Below them are Bigetron by VIT on 8-6, EVOS on 7-7 and ONIC on 6-8.

DEWA United (5-10), Geek Fam (4-10) and RRQ Hoshi (3-11) are out of the playoff race. RRQ Hoshi have now missed the playoffs for a third straight season.

What each contender needs

Each team plays 16 regular-season matches. NAVI have two left, against RRQ Hoshi on Friday and Bigetron on Sunday. Team Liquid ID have one, against ONIC on Sunday night. Alter Ego face Geek Fam on Friday and EVOS on Sunday.

On match wins alone, one more NAVI win takes them to 12. That would be out of reach for Alter Ego, whose maximum is 11, so it guarantees NAVI a top-two finish. Team Liquid ID are in the same position: a win over ONIC also takes them to 12 and guarantees a top-two place.

Alter Ego need to win both of their matches and hope that NAVI or Team Liquid ID slip up. Even then, they could finish level on 11 wins, and tiebreakers would decide the order.

Bigetron can finish no higher than 10 wins, so they cannot reach the top two. Their matches against EVOS on Saturday and NAVI on Sunday still matter for the middle of the bracket.

ONIC's double-header

ONIC are already in the playoffs on 6-8, but their weekend could shape the top of the table. They play DEWA United on Saturday afternoon and then Team Liquid ID in Sunday's final match. If ONIC win that last match, Team Liquid ID stay on 11 wins, and NAVI and Alter Ego could both move ahead of them.
