Dota 2 Enters Its Shuffle Window With Nothing Tier-One on the Calendar Until PGL Wallachia in September

The International finished in Shanghai on 23 August and left a three-week gap before the next major event. That gap is where Dota rosters are historically torn up and rebuilt.

The International finished in Shanghai on 23 August, and the next tier-one Dota 2 event is PGL Wallachia Season 9 in Bucharest from 17 to 27 September with a one million dollar prize pool. Three weeks of nothing is not a quiet period in Dota - it is the shuffle.

The 2026 run-in

Event Dates Prize pool Location
Games of the Future 31 July - 5 August $1,000,000 Astana, Kazakhstan
The International 2026 13-23 August TBA Shanghai, China
PGL Wallachia S9 17-27 September $1,000,000 Bucharest, Romania

September is light by design. One tier-one tournament in the month after TI is the norm, and organisations use the space to settle contracts before the new season's qualifiers begin.

Why the shuffle happens now

Player contracts in Dota 2 are conventionally written to expire shortly after The International, which turns the fortnight after the Aegis is lifted into an open market. Rosters that underperformed break up first, and the resulting free-agent pool pulls apart teams that did not intend to change anything. Historically the majority of tier-one rosters see at least one change in this window, and a handful dissolve entirely.

For anyone following the game competitively, the practical point is that form lines from TI stop being reliable almost immediately. A team that finished top four in Shanghai may field two new players by the time it appears in Bucharest.

What to watch before September

Roster announcements, organisation exits and new-team formations through late August and early September, then the first qualifiers for the new season. PGL Wallachia is the first read on which of the rebuilt line-ups actually work.

Following it on Playdash

Playdash prices Dota 2 with match winner, map handicap and correct-score markets on every series, plus first blood, first tower, first Roshan, total kills and game duration. Event outrights and to-reach-the-final markets open for PGL Wallachia Season 9 and each new-season qualifier, and roster changes are reflected in pricing as they are confirmed.
