Jessica Pegula Withdrew From the Singapore Tennis Open and Left Alex Eala Projected as the Third Seed

Jessica Pegula has withdrawn from the Singapore Tennis Open, the WTA said on 16 September 2026, and Filipino star Alex Eala is projected to move up to third seed for the WTA 500 event. The main draw runs from 21 to 27 September at The Kallang.
Pegula, the world number three, said she was not ready to return after the US Open. "After a long and physically demanding few weeks at the US Open, I'm just not quite ready to get back on court and compete at the level I expect from myself," she said. The American reached the US Open semi-finals and made finals in Washington and Cincinnati during a 15-4 hard-court swing.
World number five Mirra Andreeva replaces Pegula as top seed, with world number 11 Amanda Anisimova projected second, according to GMA News. Eala, ranked 18th, had been listed as fourth seed before the withdrawal. Tennis365 reported that the top four seeds receive first-round byes in the 28-player draw, and that the draw will be made on 18 September.
Eala beat Pegula in the Washington final in August for her first WTA title, according to SportPlus. Her US Open ended in the third round against her friend Iva Jovic, GMA News reported. Elise Mertens, Barbora Krejcikova and Maria Sakkari are also in the field.
Qualifying takes place on 19 and 20 September, with free admission, according to SportPlus. Pegula is expected to return at the China Open from 30 September.
