Two World Records Fell in One Zurich Evening and Alison dos Santos Took the Four Hundred Hurdles Down to Forty-Five Eighty

Weltklasse Zurich on 27 August produced world records in the men's 400m hurdles and the women's 100m hurdles on the same programme, plus meet records in three more events.

Two world records were set at the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League meeting on 27 August 2026. Alison dos Santos of Brazil ran 45.80 in the men's 400 metres hurdles and Masai Russell of the United States ran 12.09 in the women's 100 metres hurdles. Both marks were recorded as world record, Diamond League record and meet record at once.

The two records

Event Athlete Mark Status
Men's 400m hurdles Alison dos Santos 45.80 WR, DLR, MR
Women's 100m hurdles Masai Russell 12.09 WR, DLR, MR

Two world records on one night at a single one-day meeting is rare. Zurich is the meeting where it tends to happen, because the Diamond League schedules its deepest fields there late in the season when athletes are peaked and the weather is usually cooperative.

The rest of the card

Event Winner Mark
Men's 1500m Cole Hocker (USA) 3:31.71
Men's 3000m Parker Wolfe (USA) 7:27.43 (MR)
Men's 800m Emmanuel Wanyonyi (KEN) 1:41.76
Women's 800m Audrey Werro (SUI) 1:53.70 (DLR)
Women's 400m hurdles Anna Cockrell (USA) 52.13 (MR)

Audrey Werro winning the 800 metres in Zurich in a Diamond League record is the local result of the night. Parker Wolfe's 3000 metres and Anna Cockrell's 400 metres hurdles were both meet records, which means four of the marks above are records of some description.

Why the hurdles numbers matter

Both hurdles records are event-defining. The men's 400 metres hurdles has been the most competitive record in athletics for several years, and 45.80 moves the target again. Masai Russell's 12.09 does the same to a women's 100 metres hurdles record that had proved stubborn.
