Chinese Taipei's Women Won a Fifth Straight Five Hundred and Forty Kilogramme Tug of War Title in South Africa
The under 23 women also struck gold on the final day in Mossel Bay, and the senior men's bronze was their best ever result in the 560kg class.
Chinese Taipei's senior women won the 540kg class for a fifth consecutive world title on the final day of the 30th Tug of War World Championships in Mossel Bay, South Africa, on 19 September 2026.
The women's under 23 500kg team also won gold, and the delegation added silver medals from the junior mixed 520kg and men's under 23 600kg teams. The senior men's 560kg team took bronze, which Focus Taiwan described as the team's best ever performance in the event.
The haul of two golds, two silvers and a bronze on the closing day gave Chinese Taipei a total of four golds, two silvers and two bronzes. On the previous day the senior women's 500kg team had won a fifth straight world title in its own weight class and the junior women's 480kg team had also won its class.
Chinese Taipei sent 79 athletes to compete in 11 categories. At the previous world championships in Nottingham, England, the team won five golds and two silvers, and the Taipei Times reported that President William Lai congratulated the athletes on their results.
The outdoor championships ran from 16 to 19 September. Both senior women's world titles have now been won by Chinese Taipei at five successive outdoor championships.
