A Cork Road Will Close for Ten Hours a Day as Road Bowling Crowns Its King and Queen
Cork County Council has shut the R626 at Ballincurrig for three days so the All-Ireland finals and the international competition can be played on it.
The R626 at Ballincurrig in east Cork will be closed from 9.30am to 7.30pm on 18, 19 and 20 September 2026 so that Irish road bowling can hold its All-Ireland finals and the international King and Queen of the Roads competition.
Cork County Council issued the closure notice under the Roads Act 1993, shutting the stretch between the L7604 junction at Ballincurrig and the L96262 junction at Rathcobane and signposting a diversion through Two Pot Cross and Leary's Cross.
In road bowling an iron bowl is thrown along a public road and the player who covers the course in the fewest shots wins. A lead of a full shot is known in the sport as a bowl of odds.
Bol Chumann na hEireann lists the meeting on its fixture calendar as the 41st edition of the King and Queen of the Roads, while the council's closure notice describes it as the 38th staging of the international event.
The All-Ireland finals held at Westport earlier this month produced a novice 1 title for Eoin Hurley of Kilronan, Dunmanway, who beat Diarmuid Grimley of Armagh by a bowl of odds in a match played for 10,850 euro a side.
