Beier's late winner sends Dortmund top of Bundesliga before Bayern visit Freiburg

Maximilian Beier came off the bench to beat Frankfurt 1-0 and put Dortmund three points clear. Bayern can go back top with a win at Freiburg on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund are top of the Bundesliga. Substitute Maximilian Beier scored ten minutes from time on Saturday to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund now have 17 points from seven games, three more than Bayern Munich, who have a game in hand and play at Freiburg on Sunday.

Beier makes the difference off the bench

Dortmund had drawn their last few games, and for a long time this one looked like it would end the same way. Beier came on in the 68th minute. Twelve minutes later he took the ball on the edge of the area, set up by Jobe Bellingham, and curled it into the far corner.

Frankfurt's Nnamdi Collins and Fares Chaibi were both booked. Dortmund kept another clean sheet and have let in only four league goals all season, which helps explain why they are top after seven matches.

Leipzig hit four, Fuellkrug keeps scoring

RB Leipzig beat Elversberg 4-0. Romulo Cardoso scored twice, and Tidiam Gomis and Christoph Baumgartner also scored. Baumgartner was playing his first Bundesliga game of the season after injury.

Werder Bremen won 3-2 at Mainz, with Niclas Fuellkrug scoring two penalties in the first 25 minutes. That gives him eight league goals, the most in the division, and he has scored in six league games in a row. Ludovit Reis made it 3-1 before Mainz pulled a goal back late on. Bremen moved up to sixth.

Late drama at the bottom

At the other end of the table, Paderborn beat Hamburg 1-0. Rayan Philippe, on loan from Hamburg, scored two minutes from time and chose not to celebrate against his parent club. The win takes Paderborn out of the bottom three. Augsburg and Union Berlin drew 1-1, and both teams ended with ten men after red cards for Juma Bah and Felix Uduokhai. Han-Noah Massengo scored for Augsburg in the 71st minute, and Janik Haberer equalised three minutes later. Cologne and Schalke drew 0-0, which leaves Schalke in the relegation zone.

Sunday: Bayern at Freiburg

Sunday's games could change the top of the table again. Before this round, Bayern and Dortmund were level on 14 points, with Bayern well ahead on goal difference (+17 against Dortmund's +7). A win at Freiburg would put Bayern level with Dortmund on 17 points and back in first place on goal difference.

Freiburg started the round third with 13 points, so a home win would take them to 16, one point behind Dortmund. Bayer Leverkusen, also on 13, play at Hoffenheim earlier in the day.

Malaysian viewers can watch Hoffenheim v Leverkusen at 10.30pm on Sunday. Freiburg v Bayern kicks off at 12.30am on Monday, Malaysia time.
