Real Madrid score three late to win 4-3 at Roma as Villa rout Fenerbahce 6-0 and Barcola hits LASK hat-trick

Rudiger's 90th-minute winner capped Madrid's comeback in Rome, Aston Villa recorded their biggest European win and Liverpool won 6-3 in Austria on a high-scoring Wednesday.

Real Madrid scored three goals in the final seven minutes to beat Roma 4-3 in Rome on Wednesday, 14 October, the standout result of a high-scoring second round of Champions League league-phase games. Aston Villa thrashed Fenerbahce 6-0 for the biggest win in their European history, and Bradley Barcola scored his first goals for Liverpool in a 6-3 victory at LASK. Matches finished in the early hours of Thursday in Malaysia.

Rudiger completes Madrid's comeback in Rome

Roma looked set for a famous win at the Stadio Olimpico. Marten de Roon put them ahead with a deflected strike in the 20th minute, and although Kylian Mbappe equalised, Donyell Malen scored twice in quick succession in the second half to make it 3-1.

Madrid then turned the game around in the space of seven minutes. Carlos Espi tapped in a rebound from a corner in the 83rd minute, Endrick headed in another corner two minutes later, and former Roma defender Antonio Rudiger volleyed the winner in the 90th minute. Arda Guler supplied two assists. The win came on a night when Jose Mourinho returned to the club he once managed.

The defeat completed a miserable midweek for Italian clubs. Roma, Como, Inter and Napoli all lost their matchday-two fixtures, the first time every Serie A side in the competition has lost on the same matchday.

Villa make history against Fenerbahce

Unai Emery's Aston Villa were ruthless at Villa Park. Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in the 12th minute, before Nicolas Jackson struck twice in the 31st and 39th minutes. Ross Barkley added two in the second half, the first from a penalty won by Manzambi, and Tammy Abraham completed the rout in the 90th minute.

It was Villa's biggest win in major European competition and their biggest under Emery in any competition. For Fenerbahce, it was their heaviest defeat in the Champions League.

Barcola's hat-trick at LASK

Barcola had gone six appearances without a goal or assist since his move from PSG, but he scored three times in Linz. Ronald Araujo opened the scoring with his first Liverpool goal in the 22nd minute, and Barcola struck in the 24th and 37th minutes, the second set up by Florian Wirtz. Jeremie Frimpong headed in the fourth and Barcola completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute. Lewis Koumas added a sixth.

LASK pulled three goals back through Robert Ljubicic and a late double from Florian Flecker, which gave Andoni Iraola's side some defensive worries. Liverpool have now won both of their league-phase matches.
