Three Riders Are Separated by Twenty-Four Points as MotoGP Arrives at Misano, Where Marc Márquez Has Won Six Times
Jorge Martín leads Marc Márquez by 19 points and Marco Bezzecchi by 24 heading into the San Marino MotoGP at Misano from 11 to 13 September.
The MotoGP championship reaches Misano for round 14 of the season this weekend with three riders separated by 24 points and 37 points available across the sprint and the grand prix.
Jorge Martín of Aprilia leads the standings by 19 points from Ducati's Marc Márquez, with Martín's Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi a further five points back in third. Fabio Di Giannantonio is fourth, 48 points behind the leader.
The gap was much larger before the previous round at Aragón, where Márquez won both the sprint and the grand prix to take the maximum 37 points and cut Martín's lead by 21 points. Martín has led the championship since Assen but has won only one grand prix this season, while Márquez and Bezzecchi have four wins each. Martín said before the weekend that leading the standings was not his priority given how close the gaps are.
Misano has been a strong circuit for Márquez, who has six previous premier-class victories there, including wins in each of the past two seasons. Bezzecchi finished half a second behind him in last year's race and is looking for a second win in Italy this season after victory at Mugello in May. The event is also a home race for Aprilia and Pecco Bagnaia's final Misano appearance in Ducati colours.
Practice begins on 11 September, with qualifying and the 13-lap sprint on 12 September and the 27-lap San Marino Grand Prix on 13 September. After Misano the series has two more European rounds before travelling to Japan in early October.
