MotoGP's thirteenth round of twenty-two runs at MotorLand Aragon from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August, and the championship arriving there is the tightest of the modern era: five riders inside forty-one points, and the rider in third is not on the grid.

Ogura fractured his left hand training in Japan and requires surgery, ruling him out of Aragon. That is thirty-seven points available across the sprint and the grand prix that his four rivals can take while he takes none - the single largest swing of the season so far, and it arrives at the exact moment the title fight had compressed.
Ogura's season had already made history: his maiden win at the Dutch Grand Prix on 28 June made him the first Japanese premier-class winner since Makoto Tamada in 2004, a gap of twenty-two years.
Marquez at MotorLand
Marc Marquez is the reigning champion and has seven premier-class wins at Aragon, taking pole, sprint, grand prix and fastest lap on each of his last two visits. He trails Martin by thirty-one. Martin, meanwhile, has never ridden the Aprilia at this circuit.
