Grand Slam of Darts 2026: Final Places Decided in Leicester as 48-Player Field Takes Shape
Tour Card holders battle for at least eight Grand Slam of Darts spots in Leicester on Friday, completing a record 48-player field for Wolverhampton.
The last open door into the biggest Grand Slam of Darts ever staged closes on Friday 6 November, when PDC Tour Card holders who have not already qualified meet in Leicester to fight for at least eight places. Their reward is a seat at a tournament that has been rebuilt for 2026: 48 players instead of 32, a £1 million prize fund and nine days of action at WV Active Aldersley in Wolverhampton from 14 to 22 November.
A new, bigger format
For the first time the Grand Slam field has been expanded to 48 players, split into 16 groups of three rather than the familiar eight groups of four. The top 16 players on the PDC rankings are seeded and placed into the groups in bracket order. The remaining 32 are divided into two blocks, ranks 17 to 32 and ranks 33 to 48, with one player from each block drawn into every group.
The money has grown too. The champion lifts the Eric Bristow Trophy and £200,000, while the runner-up takes £100,000. Semi-finalists earn £60,000, quarter-finalists £35,000 and last-16 players £20,000. Even the group stage pays well: £12,500 for finishing second in a group and £5,000 for third.
Who is already in
Luke Littler heads the field as the reigning, back-to-back champion. He beat Luke Humphries 16-11 in last year's final, and Humphries is back again after winning the World Grand Prix. Gian van Veen, runner-up at the 2026 World Championship, Gerwyn Price, James Wade, Nathan Aspinall and Michael van Gerwen are also confirmed.
The most recent major winner is Ross Smith, who claimed the European Championship in Dortmund on 25 October with an 11-8 final win over German favourite Martin Schindler. Smith had already qualified as World Series of Darts Finals champion; Schindler's run to the final booked his own Wolverhampton ticket. Henry Coates also squeezed in as the lowest-ranked ProTour title winner of 2026.
The women's game is well represented. Beau Greaves qualifies for a fourth straight Grand Slam after winning the Women's World Matchplay and reaching the 2025 World Youth final, and Lisa Ashton has earned her place through the Women's Series rankings.
An Asian flag in the draw
There is a Southeast Asian interest for local fans. Paolo Nebrida of the Philippines is in the field as PDC Asian Championship winner, one of the regional routes into the event alongside the North American champion, Adam Sevada. The PDC Nordic and Baltic champion, still to be decided on 8 November, and the ANZ Premier League winner also earn places.
How Friday's qualifier works
The Leicester event is open to Tour Card holders who have not already secured a spot. Organisers set aside at least eight places, and the PDC rules allow extra places to be added if fewer than 40 players qualify directly through televised finals, regional titles and ProTour wins. Several established names were still outside the confirmed list in recent race updates, so the qualifier could produce some familiar faces as well as surprise entrants. With the field not yet complete, the group draw has still to be made.
For Malaysian fans, the UK is on GMT in November, so Malaysia time is eight hours ahead. An evening session starting at 7pm in Wolverhampton begins at 3am MYT the following morning, while afternoon sessions land in the late evening in Malaysia.
