PGL Masters Bucharest: Spirit, MOUZ and Aurora fall on day one as NAVI edge G2 in triple overtime

Three of HLTV's top-five teams lost their opening Swiss series in Bucharest, while NAVI's narrow win over G2 lifted them towards a PGL Major Singapore invite.

The Counter-Strike 2 event PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 began on Saturday 24 October with a string of upsets. Team Spirit, MOUZ and Aurora, three of the top five teams in HLTV's world ranking, all lost their opening best-of-three series. Natus Vincere beat G2 Esports 2-0, but only after needing three overtimes on the second map. With the invite deadline for PGL Major Singapore close, the results matter beyond the $1,250,000 prize pool.

Upsets in the opening round

BetBoom came from a map down to beat Spirit 2-1. Spirit won Anubis 13-10, then BetBoom took Ancient 13-3 and edged Mirage 16-14 in overtime. Zorte was BetBoom's top performer on all three maps and finished the series with a 1v3 clutch. Spirit star donk ended with a 0.84 rating, well below his usual level.

Team Liquid beat MOUZ 2-1 in a series with two overtime maps. MOUZ won Ancient 16-13 despite a 1v5 clutch from Liquid's NAF. Liquid replied by taking Inferno 16-12 in overtime and Mirage 13-11, and Jorko had 21 kills in the decider.

Asia's representatives started well. The MongolZ lost Inferno 16-12 in overtime to Aurora, then won Nuke 13-2 and Dust2 13-9. New signing nin9 made his tier-one debut for the Mongolian side in the series. Chinese team TYLOO were less fortunate and lost 2-0 to FUT (Nuke 13-9, Ancient 13-6), with SunPayus posting a 1.47 rating on his FUT debut.

NAVI survive G2 marathon

NAVI and G2 played the day's closest series. NAVI won Nuke 13-11, and Dust2 then went to a third overtime before NAVI closed it 22-19. In-game leader Aleksib had the best rating in the match at 1.28, and w0nderful finished with 54 kills.

According to HLTV, the win was worth 83 points in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) and moved NAVI up 10 places from 33rd. That puts them on course to sit just inside the invite places for the Singapore Major, which runs from 24 November to 13 December.

In the day's other matches, Vitality beat 9z 2-0 with jL standing in for apEX and flameZ rated highest at 1.27. FURIA beat DENDELE 2-0, and Nemiga beat Legacy 2-0, winning Ancient 25-23 after several overtimes before taking Dust2 13-8. Nemiga's syph0 led the scoreboard with a 1.37 rating.
