Two Villages Three Miles Apart Meet in the Shinty Final at Oban for the Second Year Running

The Camanachd Cup final is at Mossfield Stadium in Oban on Saturday 19 September, and it is Kingussie against Newtonmore, which is the fixture it usually is.
The two villages sit about three miles apart in Badenoch. Between them they have won the cup 61 times: Newtonmore 35, more than any other club, and Kingussie 26. Kyles Athletic are next on 21, then Fort William on six and Oban Celtic on five.
Newtonmore hold the trophy, having beaten Kingussie 3-2 in last year's final at Inverness. This is a straight rematch, one year on, on neutral ground on the west coast.
The competition was first played in 1896, which makes this the 130th year of it. Shinty is a stick-and-ball field game played with a caman, and the final is the end of the season rather than one fixture within it.
Tickets are sold through the governing body and prices had not been published at the start of this month. Listings give an event window from half past ten in the morning to half past four in the afternoon, which is the day's full programme rather than the final itself. The Camanachd Cup final is traditionally paired with a lower-grade final on the same afternoon, which is what fills the six hours.
Throw-up time has not been confirmed. Anybody quoting half past ten as a kick-off is reading a ticket listing.
