Rotterdam worlds wrap: Zou Jingyuan's fifth parallel bars title and Tang Chia-hung's high bar gold

The 2026 gymnastics world championships closed in Rotterdam with golds for Zou Jingyuan, Kaylia Nemour, Claire Pease and Tang Chia-hung, while Carlos Yulo missed out.

The 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships finished in Rotterdam on Sunday, 25 October, with China's Zou Jingyuan adding another parallel bars crown, Chinese Taipei's Tang Chia-hung taking a surprise high bar title and the Philippines' Carlos Yulo leaving the Netherlands without a medal. The nine-day event at Rotterdam Ahoy crowned team, all-around and apparatus champions across 14 finals.

Final day: Zou, Tang and a beam tiebreak

Zou produced the standout score of the closing session, 15.733 on parallel bars, to win his fifth world title on the apparatus. Croatia's Illia Kovtun took silver with 14.900, and Japan's all-around champion Daiki Hashimoto finished just off the podium in fourth.

High bar was much tighter. Tang won with 14.966, his first world medal of any colour, while Japan's Shinnosuke Oka and neutral athlete Sergei Naidin both scored 14.800, with Oka taking silver on execution.

Algeria's Kaylia Nemour also needed a tiebreak on balance beam. She and China's Zhang Qingying both posted 14.566, and Nemour's higher execution mark gave her gold to go with her uneven bars title from Saturday. Brazil's Flavia Saraiva took bronze.

In women's floor, American Claire Pease won with 13.866 ahead of team-mate Reese Esponda, with France's Maiana Prat taking bronze on a tiebreak with Britain's Abigail Martin.

Yulo's difficult championships

Two-time Olympic champion Yulo had qualified for both the floor and vault finals but could not convert either. He finished eighth in floor with 13.233, then placed seventh in vault, where he had been the defending world champion, with an average of 13.883. Philippine reports said a heavy landing on his first vault cost him a 0.3 penalty; his second effort scored 14.433.

Armenia's Artur Davtyan won vault gold with 14.850, ahead of Britain's Jake Jarman (14.650) and Norway's Sebastian Sponevik (14.366).

Team and all-around champions

Japan retained the men's team title earlier in the week, with China taking bronze, and Hashimoto added the men's all-around crown with 85.998. China's women dethroned the United States in the team final, 165.674 to 165.531, with Japan third.

American Skye Blakely won the women's all-around with 55.733 and left Rotterdam with four medals, also collecting team silver, uneven bars bronze and vault bronze. Brazil's Rebeca Andrade won women's vault gold.

Other apparatus champions included Armenia's Hamlet Manukyan on pommel horse, China's Lan Xingyu on rings and American Frederick Richard on floor.

What it means for Asia

Asian gymnasts finished the week strongly. Japan claimed two of the three biggest men's titles through the team and Hashimoto, China won both the women's team and men's parallel bars, and Tang's high bar gold was a breakthrough for Chinese Taipei. For South-East Asia, Yulo's results were a setback, but he remains the region's leading gymnast heading into the next stage of the Olympic cycle.
